How would it make you feel to find out the Olympics were staged?Would you be upset even if it was true the Games would be altogether unwatchable if this wasn’t the case?
Those are the kinds of questions American Idol fans are asking themselves after the show released the following statement about its recent lip-syncing controversy:
“Due to extensive choreography and to balance their voices with open mikes against a screaming audience, the Idols do sing along to their own prerecorded vocal track during the group performances only."
Of course, the confession would seem more sincere if it hadn't come hot on the heels of an earlier denial of the same charges.
Last week, former Idol finalist Justin Guarini caused an uproar when he suggested that American Idol group performances were lip-synced. A unnamed production assistant took the charges even further, alleging that even parts of Idol's solo performances are pre-recorded.
Fox is wrong if it believes a few off-key performances could drive away American Idol's dedicated fans. People don't need for their reality TV to be slick; we'd prefer it to be real.
