You Can't Do That on Television is one of the shows I most closely associate with growing up on Canadian TV.
From humble beginnings as a low budget variety/comedy show for kids on Ottawa's CJOH-TV in 1979, Television went international in 1981. That even included a stint on Nickelodeon that extended four years past the show's 1990 cancellation.
Each episode followed a recognizable format and was given a distinct theme, like "Divorce" or "Technology." A series of recurring departments - like Locker Jokes and Barth's Burgers - provided a framework for gags that often dumb but almost always funny. The show even turned cream pie into a hilarious, all-purpose prop.
You Can't Do That On Television cranked out an astounding 143 episodes over 10 seasons, most of which were entertaining - if not mildly groundbreaking.
